Grab Ya Cat

Mildura based 8 piece soul-blues band Grab Ya Cat formed at the turn of the century, channeling the Chicago Blues sound of bands such as the Blues Brothers and The Commitments. A mainstay for 15 years of the Sunraysia events scene, Grab Ya Cat has headlined at the Business Excellence Awards, the 2004 World Hot Air Ballooning Championships and fundraising events such as the Pink Ball.
After a two-year hiatus, Grab Ya Cat is back with a new lead singer and a revised repertoire. In her debut performance fronting the ‘Cats’, Sophie Harris brings new energy to the elder statesmen of blues, soaring from Dusty Springfield to Amy Winehouse in an electrifying and joyful tribute to some timeless soul classics.
With Owen Zibell and Kenny Hall keeping the backline tight on bass and drums, the rhythm section is rounded out by Richard Mintern on keyboard and the uncompromising lead guitar of Andy Castle. But when that horn section fires up and that fat sound hits you, you know you’re alive! John Dea on trombone and blues harp, Ivan Cetinich on alto and tenor sax, and Geoff Dea on trumpet bring the blues on home. As Marl Knopfler sang, “the horns, they’re blowin’ that sound”. So get up and dance, grab ya cat and swing ‘em!
